Okay, he can't of stayed in the fire nation forever, or else he wouldn't know how to deal with other benders. so he would have had to go outside the firenation at one point to fight them. when he does... let me be perfectly frank here... eventually, tales about a man who doesn't talk, and has an arm and a leg out of metal, and blows stuff up with his mind is bound to get around to some people in the earth kingdom. namely, the higher- ups and the guards. King Bumi, and his advisers, would naturally be some of them. and Roister, who occasionally "Legitamently" heard these conversations, would know about him.

I've done a few already and given them a chapter title, not like the thread chapter but parts of threads merged together to make the chapter. Pretty much what Zfish did, but I'm just adding the finishing touches.

((True, but you're assuming there were survivors. It's highly possible that he simply travelled through the forests, and murdered all those who saw him. Aang only survived because he is the avatar. A bender of lesser skill would be dead in seconds.

Also, the Painted Lady and Puppetmaster are, as far as we know, unknown to Bumi and The Earth King. Surely a man with metal limbs, when such a thing might not be unheard of, would garner less attention? A weird man isn't as important, to most people, as a spirit that kills and kidnaps, yet neither of them are widespread knowledge.

OOC: the Painted Lady and Puppetmaster are local to small parts of the fire nation. not really that important to have bumi know. but any assassin on the other hand, if they were seen, they would have to be known. any leader would have to have protection against assassins, including Bumi.
if no one ever heard of that assassin, how would he get a job to kill? he wouldn't walk into a tavern and yell "I'm an assassin! anyone want to hire me?"
also, a few rumors about assassins would actually help them. people would gossip about them, making them look scarier and eviler then they actually are. that would get some guards anywhere to quit if they heard that he was coming.
Also, metal limbs wouldn't be that big of a deal at all...
...if this was full metal alchemist. but i do see your point. metal limbs might not be that uncommon.

We've never heard of bloodbending before The Puppetmaster, yet it's unlikely that it was only known by one woman. Maybe other benders learned about it independently.

Maybe combustion was learned by other firebenders, and so was generally seen as ultra-advanced firebending.))
