Re: Legend of Zelda series
Skyward Sword has some interesting dungeons, as does Twilight Princess I think. They were considered dungeons, but a lot of them weren't the dark atmosphere type. I can't give too much away with the layouts or what some places were without making it another spoiler.
Then again you can't not say something to someone who hasn't played most Zeldas without it being a spoiler :P

Re: Legend of Zelda series
Well one dungeon that comes to mind is from Twilight Princess. It's not like the common dungeons because it's in a bright blue sky. It looks really welcoming unlike the many other dull gray dungeons from previous Zelda games.
I think they started to stray away from that design now that graphics are becoming more detailed.

Re: Legend of Zelda series
good because I hated going in the dark dungeons. I don't know, that's kind of like how I am in real life though where if I'm sitting in a room and I look out the window and I see it's nice out, I get really frustrated because I want to go outside. It was the same thing with the dungeons in Windwaker: i knew for the most part it was nice outside and I could ride the boat where ever I wanted so I hated being in the dungeons XD

Re: Legend of Zelda series
I didn't care for all the ocean traveling. Would had been better if there were more islands to inspect or more that weren't so useless except for one treasure chest or whatever.
WindWaker was a great game don't get me wrong, but I didn't care how restrictive it was where you could travel, like Phantom Hourglass and SpiritTracks. There wasn't much traveling that was fun (as was OoT or TP)
SkywardSword has the same problem, but not to that extent. In the sky there's not much but clouds and a few spare sky islands. The first few times the sky imagery is beautiful, but there's not much change in the scenery.

Re: Legend of Zelda series
for me, getting too much roam space would only seriously distract me. and id probably get lost and wander for hours XD. I was already kind of doing that with Windwaker at times :p

Re: Legend of Zelda series
So was I with WindWaker. The sea was so freaking big and the same. If you never used the map frequently you would end up getting lost easily. I remember one time thinking I was on the right track and I went all across the damn ocean to the other border.
Free roam space like in TP and OoT was easier to follow because not two places were the same. So it was easy to tell where you were.

Re: Legend of Zelda series
I can't remember. I think the fish was only to fill in islands (which were treasure and sidequest based.)
Other then that where you were on the map still showed up. It's been years since I've played so I don't fully remember.

Re: Legend of Zelda series
I actually want to play WindWaker again. I always loved that quirky style. It was so colorful, unlike most of the Zeldas. WindWaker ends the Old Hyrule era.

Re: Legend of Zelda series
I'm actually seriously irritated right now that I haven't played Skyward Swords yet or Ocarina of Time (but mostly Skyward Swords). And, that I still CAN'T play the damn game. Because I still don't have a Wii @_@.
I think part of this irritation came about because I finished unpacking most of my video games (some are still missing somewhere) so now I'm just staring at a bunch of Wii games I can't play. And, there's a whole bunch of Skyward Swords gifs on Tumblr with Link and Zelda being absolutely adorable together.
T_____T
on the positive side, KH 3D is coming out soon which means I'll force myself to buy a 3DS as a 'replacement' for my Nintendo DS. And then, I will buy Ocarina of Time with it.

Re: Legend of Zelda series
If you're going to get the game only because of the Zelda and Link interactions, don't bother. She hardly has any scenes in a lot of the game. Also bird riding gets about as boring as sailing with Wind Waker. Looks kind of awesome at first, but then after repeated use it gets old quick.
I liked SS, no question, but I feel like a lot of it is more like an interactive video then a game. Sure people in tumblr might be spazzing out and getting you psyched, but you said it already, they don't know how to express themselves without caplocks :P
Part of what I liked about the older Zelda and other games is that they allowed you to play and control the character. Then graphics came in playing too much of a major role and it's all about just placing the controller down as the character(s) do everything via CGI/scenes.

Re: Legend of Zelda series
well considering KH has a lot of cg cutscenes, i think i can live with it in Zelda. i mean, i think the beginning of kh2 was like 10 minutes long or some ridiculous thing like that. and i enjoyed every minute of it.
plus, i liked sailing in Windwaker. I don't know what you're problem with it was lol :p. sometimes i just sailed aimlessly in the game when i was bored.
